The Lifestyle Medicine Curriculum creates a real change in the way we live our lives and empowers school communities to take back control of their metabolic health and wellbeing.

The power in this curriculum is that it drives a cultural change in the school community making it far more likely that there will be sustainable changes that benefit short and long term health.

Improved health leads to improved attendance, focus, concentration, behaviour, relationships and academic achievement.

The curriculum has been created in collaboration with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM), Xavier CET and a number of leading experts.

Lifestyle medicine is a new branch of medicine that is both a preventative approach and a treatment for 90% of the chronic health conditions we are at risk of. It is concerned with person centred care and addressing the root cause of our bodies disfunction.

The Lifestyle Medicine curriculum will bring awareness of concepts like metabolic health.

Poor metabolic health is at the root of so many conditions from skin condition like eczema and psoriasis, type II diabetes, IBS as well as mental health issues such as anxiety, depression / low mood, poor emotional regulation and symptoms presented in neurodivergent conditions such as ADHA and ASD.

Metabolic health is essentially how well the cells in our body make energy and this can be effected by high levels of inflammation and a poor gut microbiome.

The 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine

The Lifestyle Medicine Curriculum uses the 6 pillars of sleep, physical activity, mental health, healthy relationships, healthy eating and minimising harmful substances to bring the environment we are living in back into alignment with our body’s physiological needs. When this happens our gut microbiome improves, levels of inflammation drop and our metabolic health improves.

With our physiological needs met our bodies know how to heel themselves!  Many of our health problems are not broken bodies but natural physiological reactions to living our modern lifestyles!

The curriculum provides a trusted resource for all members of the school community to move towards a health first approach in their lives.

It dispels the myths and misinformation and provides an empowering array of latest science and practical strategies that parents, staff and students can immediately start to use in their daily lives.

The curriculum is supported by an advanced learning management platform and can be branded and themed to meet your schools requirements – adding photos, school colours, logos etc.

The information comes from fascinating up to date research from respected journals and accredited by the BSLM.

It has been put together by a team of experts in the fields of medicine, education and psychology to ensure that it is both engaging and easy to turn into practical habits.

The lifestyle medicine curriculum is as much about creating positive, healthy behaviour changes for parents and staff as it is for empowering students to live their lives at a higher level of well-being.  When we place health as the priority, everything else we do improves and that includes the way we role model to our children/ students.

The curriculum runs from KS1 through to KS5 and meets many of the PSHE requirements.  It focusses on the 6 pillars of sleep, physical activity, mental health, healthy relationships, healthy eating and minimising harmful activities / substances.
