Having been a teacher for 35 years, with 27 of those as a senior leader, Steve has education and leadership engrained in his bones. Steve’s philosophy as an educator has always been ‘happy, healthy people first…outcomes second’ so has focused on helping others to be the best possible physical and emotional version of themselves. He has always been fascinated by psychology and the vital role of the emotional brain, believing steadfastly in challenge, encouragement, empowerment and unfailing support as the way to help others reach their goals.
As a very proud Northerner who grew up in the industrial North-West, Steve has always lived a very active life. As a schoolboy he played both country cricket and football before representing English Colleges at football, playing semi-professional football and gaining several coaching badges whilst studying for his PE degree.
Despite a packed professional diary, he remains very active, regularly going out for long walks, running. playing golf or attacking major garden projects. When not working or training, you will find him indulging in his passion for watching rugby league or cricket, listening to rock music or hiking in any mountain range he can find.
In 2020, Steve established ‘Bee-lieve Foundation’, an emotional wellbeing and mental health charity working to support young people across the UK. The mission, work and ethos of the charity align closely with Lifestyle First; there is nothing more important for the future of our communities and society than the wellbeing of our young people.
Steve’s goal is for all schools to build a strong, robust wellbeing culture that benefits every young person and adult within the community. Positive physical and emotional health go hand in hand and these are essential for every happy, thriving human being; this focus has to be the aim of every educational establishment across the country if we are to reverse the alarming decline in the wellbeing and health of the next generation.
